World Population Day |
Each year, 11 July is celebrated as a World Population Day all over the world. This
day was inaugurated in 1988 by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to mark
the anniversary of the day, when the world’s population hit five billion.
The aim of celebrating this day is to draw attention to issues related to population
and to create awareness among people to resolve these issues. It also helps to focus
on the impact of the growing population on developmental plans. This day highlights
the need for measures required to tackle the growing population.
This year’s theme for World Population Day as announced by UNFPA is “Fight Poverty:
Educate Girls”. It promotes that investing in education and health for women and
girls leads to the healthier economy.
