World Kidney Day |
|
|
|
|
|
Kidney disease is often ‘silent’ and very often, it comes along with other health
threatening conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. If left unchecked,
the disease can lead to kidney failure. It can severely affect the quality of life
and ultimately can cost lives. On the other hand, appropriate treatment can delay
or even stop chronic kidney disease.
The celebration of World Kidney Day is one of the efforts to raise
awareness of the importance of healthy kidneys. It is a joint initiative of the
International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney
Foundations (IFKF). It was launched for the first time in 2006 and it is held on
every second Thursday of March. This year it will be observed on 12 March. This
day is meant to spread the message that kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable. |
