World Hemophilia Day |
|
|
|
|
|
April 17 is celebrated as a World Hemophilia Day. This day was started by the World
Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) in 1989. The date April 17th was chosen in honor
of WFH founder Frank Schnabel, who was born on that day.
The aim of celebrating this day is to promote a global fight against hemophilia
to improve the quality of life of people with hemophilia. This day gives an opportunity
to hemophilia organizations around the world to educate the public about the many
misconceptions about this bleeding disorder ‘hemophilia’.
Hemophilia is a bleeding disorder in which blood cannot clot normally at the site
of a wound or injury. It is caused due to an absence of an important protein found
in normal blood that aids in clotting. It can be treated by replacing the missing
clotting factor in the blood.
