Every year November 14 is celebrated as World Diabetes Day. World Health Organisation (WHO) and International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to mark the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, played a significant role in the discovery of insulin in 1922 started it.
Diabetes represents a serious health risk to millions of people all over the globe and it is increasing at an alarming rate. It is a disease in which the body is unable to produce or unable to properly use and store glucose. Diabetes, today is not restricted to any age group..
Every year a theme related to Diabetes is chosen for the campaigning. For 2009–2013, the theme for the World Diabetes Day is ‘Diabetes Education and Prevention’.
