cancer. This day as the platform to highlight the plight of people affected by cancer
and also meant to encourage the efforts to improve cancer prevention, treatment
and care. It is led by the International Union against Cancer (UICC).The date was

Cancer is a leading cause of death around the world. It is estimated that over 40%
of all cancer can be prevented. However, tobacco use and obesity are contributing
to the rise in cancer rates. The globalization of markets and urbanization is leading
to rising consumption of processed foods high in fats, sugars and salt, as well
as tobacco products. As a consequence the burden of cancer and other chronic diseases
is increasing. |
